Debt BLAG is a personal finance blog offering tips on paying off and living with student loan debt, all while saving toward financial freedom. It’s based on knowledge gleaned from my own experiences, schooling, and asking questions.
I’m Mario. I started this blog in January 2013, when, as a single guy living in New York, I watched as my combined credit card and student loan debt shot past $160,000, and decided that I had enough.
To tackle these I made the following four New Years resolutions for 2013 that I hope will guide me through my whole debt pay-down which will take many years:
- Pay off all $35,000 of my credit card debt in two years, starting with my high-interest debt.
- Get smart about my options for student loan debt, and make a plan for paying it off.
- Do better accounting for my rental properties, and refinance both mortgages.
- Blog often to keep myself honest and to keep learning.
And that last one is where you come in. I will try to ensure my posts and plans are well-researched, but fully expect that much more than half of what’s worth reading on this website will come from the conversations I have with visitors.
Thanks for checking out my blog. Despite a pretty rough starting point, I’m looking forward to this adventure and hope you’ll join along.
