Oh, hi. I hope that your morning is going well so far.
So about today’s topic, obviously Google lets you search for free, as many times as you want.
But imagine, for a second, that it was a pay-per-use service — that every time you heard a word whose definition you didn’t know, or every time you got into a bar argument about who won the World Cup in 1962, or wanted to know the name of that song that goes “bidi bidi bom bom,” your only choices were to send Google a penny or two, use another search engine, or just accept mystery.
Would you still use Google? Or would you hold onto your money and try some other search engine?
I bring up the question because I’ve been using Bing.com as my primary search engine for some time now.
Google and Bing bring up results that are generally the same and there are better and worse things about the integrated features of each; for example, I prefer Google when searching for directions, but prefer Bing when searching for travel.
One big difference between the two is that Bing offers rewards for every search you do using their engine — small rewards for sure, but they’re something.
You can get up to 15 points per day from web searches, up to 10 points per day for mobile searches, and one bonus point per day for doing a search they recommend — for example, searching for “Memorial Day” on Memorial Day.
Add that together and that’s up to 26 points per day or 9490 per year, which you could redeem for $100.96 worth of gift cards from Amazon or other retailers. Since I do a lot of bulk buying from Amazon, I consider gift cards from there as almost as good as cash.
Also, you get points for referring people, like I’m trying to do right now (Click my referral link).
Oh, but you have to use Tanga
Consider this a tiny bonus tip: There’s an option to redeem 475 points for a $5 Amazon gift card, which is fine; you’ll still get $99.89 worth of gift cards per year.
You can, however, redeem just 470 points for a $5 Tanga gift card, which you can convert into an Amazon gift card pretty easily.
Alright, and that’s that. I hope you have a great week (Need help getting it started? Just groove along to the Tex-Mex stylings of Selena’s Bidi Bidi Bom Bom)
So what do you think; is trying out another search engine worth it to get a little bit of rewards?
