Oh hi. In my post about saving money on text books, I mentioned that one way that I have saved on books is by signing up for Great Bridge Group.
By this point, everyone has heard of cash back credit cards and many people know about click-through cash-back sites like Fatwallet and Ebates, but I suspect few know about passive cash back sites like Great Bridge Group (NB I will say “sites like” and refer to passive cash back companies as a genre throughout this post, but I know of no similar websites).
Great Bridge is a market research company from which I am earning 0.25% cash back on all of my credit card purchases in exchange for allowing them to anonymize, group, analyze, and sell, my shopping data.
Because Great Bridge understands how scary this may sound coming from a company I’ve never heard of — or because they’re lazy; I don’t know — they never hold onto any of sensitive information, instead contracting with the more well-known company Yodlee on the back end to get shopping information. They double down on this thinking by not even collecting bank data to make cash back payments — which come once a quarter and are capped at $60 per quarter — instead sending them to an email address, either by way of PayPal or an Amazon gift card.
Oh, almost forgot the most important thing: because it collects this data on the back end, this 0.25% is in addition to any credit card cash back rewards or click-through site rewards — like Fatwallet and Ebates I mentioned earlier — that I might already be getting. Anyhow, I’ve been using it for a couple quarters now and like it. The cash back payments happen without issue and any time I run into a snag — for example, with adding credit cards — their customer service is quick to respond and fix it.
Also, if you use my referral code, you get an additional $5 for signing up: https://www.greatbridgegroup.com/?referralCode=D8-fuFKhkJMzpxmMitz6aQ
From the site, it looks like they may eventually add surveys you’d get paid for, but that’s not very passive.
Anyhow, that’s one of my tiny secrets about saving on shopping online. Every 0.25% helps! More importantly, does anyone know of any other passive cash back sites?
